We started the day at another winery, which is considered one of the well-known wineries in the area, and we were disappointed by the commercialism of the place. We decided to look for a more authentic place and arrived at the Casa sola winery. We had an amazing experience! The owner of the winery gave us a tour where we saw the wine production and aging area and then tasted the delicious wines and wonderful food they prepared for us. A highly recommended experience for those looking to experience Tuscany!

Here are the four stages of your visit:

  1. Welcome to Fattoria Casa Sola: You will be greeted by our staff, who will introduce you to our estate. We will then move to our panoramic terrace, from where you can admire the view of San Gimignano and our vineyards. Here, we will share our story and that of Chianti Classico with you.
  2. Stroll through our vineyards and olive groves: During this, you will have the opportunity to delve into agronomic and environmental sustainability topics.
  3. Wine Cellar Tour: Explore the grape processing journey, from the initial fermentation to aging.
  4. Tasting, optionally accompanied by local products. During this, you will discover how different aging processes are reflected in the glass, and we will provide valuable knowledge and tips on food and wine pairings.

Before and After Visiting Our Winery

If you’re planning a visit to Casa Sola for an unforgettable wine tourism experience, be aware that the surrounding area offers a rich variety of cultural, culinary, and wine-related experiences, as well as natural and historical beauty. Casa Sola serves as an ideal starting point for exploring and discovering all of Tuscany.

In close proximity to our estate, you’ll find numerous captivating destinations. We recommend exploring the Chianti region at a leisurely pace, taking your time to enjoy the journey, admire the landscapes, the winding roads, and the delights of local gastronomy. In addition to visiting the historic cities of Florence, Siena, Pisa, Perugia, and Arezzo, which are all less than an hour’s drive from Casa Sola, here are some other ideas for your itinerary.

Outdoor Excursions and Activities

  • The Chianti region is perfect for bicycle and mountain bike enthusiasts, with cycling paths and unpaved roads that wind through picturesque villages, forests, and vineyard-covered hills. You’ll find routes suitable for every skill level.

  • Trekking: You can explore the natural beauty, history, and rural traditions step by step, immersing yourself in breathtaking scenery and savoring local flavors at each stop. The Via Francigena, from Canterbury to Rome (and all the way to Santa Maria di Leuca for those continuing to Jerusalem), was one of the main European routes for pilgrims motivated by faith, offering splendid landscapes and artistic and religious testimonies, from Renaissance cathedrals to Romanesque monasteries. This journey will help you rediscover the original relationship between man, time, and space. Additionally, you can organize a horseback ride through rural landscapes for a different experience.

  • Rural Churches: Chianti is rich in historic churches and medieval parish churches. Some of these are not only beautiful but also have fascinating histories. Stop to admire the Pieve di San Donato in Poggio or visit the Badia di Passignano.

  • Barberino Val d’Elsa: It is a small town located off the beaten path. Charming and distinctive, its historic center is worth including in your Chianti itinerary.

  • Artisan Workshops: In Chianti, a land of inspiration and passion, skilled artisans pass down ancient knowledge. With expertise, they transform materials like clay to create ceramics, finely crafted wood, leather, and silver creations that convey true “emotions”. Take a moment to visit one of these artisan workshops and discover their work.

  • Semifonte: The chapel stands among vineyards and cultivated fields, where the eponymous city once stood, a rival of Florence and thus razed to the ground in 1198. This small chapel has an octagonal plan and is topped with a dome that faithfully replicates the one in the Florence Cathedral.

  • Archaeodrome of Poggibonsi: It’s not only an archaeological excavation covering three different eras, but also an open-air museum that reconstructs, on a real scale, the central core of the 9th-century village located a few meters away.

  • San Donato in Poggio: It’s a charming medieval village surrounded by captivating hills, vineyards, and olive groves, recently included among Italy’s 100 most beautiful villages. Its imposing defensive walls, built in the 12th century, and the lookout tower preserve the charm of a bygone era. This place also houses the Museum of Rural Culture, which displays objects and utensils related to the ancient trades of Tuscan rural culture.

  • Museum of Sacred Art in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa: Housed in the canonical residence of the church of San Pietro in Bossolo, dating back to the second half of the 11th century and restored in 1946-1947. This museum collects artworks, precious objects, and documents from the churches under the jurisdiction of the parishes of San Pietro in Bossolo and San Donato in Poggio.

  • Polifunctional Observatory of Chianti: It houses the largest telescope in Tuscany under its dome. Regular public events and meetings are organized here. Once a month, it offers evening tours to the public, and private guided tours can be booked. The Chianti Botanical Park, which offers guided tours, excursions, educational workshops, orienteering courses, outdoor concerts, and art exhibitions on various occasions, extends around the observatory.

  • Thermal Spa: Relax in a thermal spa in the heart of Chianti and enjoy a day of well-being.

  • San Galgano Abbey: A fascinating roofless building located in the Tuscan hills.

  • San Gimignano: Discover the famous medieval towers of the town and taste artisanal ice cream in the city.

  • Volterra: An Etruscan city famous for its history and alabaster craftsmanship.

  • Day Trip to the Sea: If you fancy a day at the seaside, head to the Tuscan coast to explore places like Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi, or Punta Ala.

  • Monteriggioni: A small medieval village famous for its imposing circular walls, perfect for a panoramic walk. Explore the central tower and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding hills.

  • Colle Val d’Elsa: Renowned for crystal production and offers the opportunity to visit artisan workshops. Take a stroll through the well-preserved medieval streets and visit the charming old town.

Enjoy a Romantic Sunset in the Chianti Hills with a Glass of Wine.
